My name is Rocco Berardi. I am 28 Years old from Staten Island, New York, and very excited to be apart of something so much greater than myself. I saw the ad for the opportunity to be apart of a charitable bike ride to raise awareness of child abuse and domestic violence and immediately hounded Barbara about going. (www.dreamforthestars.com).
Although it might sound idiosyncratic, I just like helping people. That along with the idea of meeting 24+ new people from around the country sharing a common goal is amazing. I feel that domestic violence and child abuse are very important feats to be tackled in this country.
HERE ARE SOME FACTS:
* 4 children die every day from child abuse.
* 37% of women in prison and 14% of men in jail today were victims of child abuse.
*One-third of abused children will carry the viscious cycle to the next generation.
I had a great upbringing and was fortunate to not have to deal with any of these terrible facts, but at the end of the day if I can tell my kids (no children yet, maybe 1 day) I did something like this maybe I can inspire them to do something great from something I did in the past, hence reversing the negative cycle of child abuse.
